1996 Jaguar XJ220

XJ220

€595,000

The fastest production car in the world at the time.

The year is 1992. The early 1990s marked the arrival of the first true supercars capable of breaking the 300 km/h barrier outside of professional motorsport. The Ferrari F40 kicked things off with a top speed of 324 km/h, followed by the Bugatti EB110 at 336 km/h. Then came Jaguar with the XJ220 — reaching an incredible 350 km/h. It was the undisputed champion. In 1992 and 1993, this was a figure from another world, and even today it remains spectacular.

JaguarSport was led by Tom Walkinshaw, famous for his international racing successes with the Jaguar XJS touring cars and the Silk Cut Group C prototypes (XJR-9 to XJR-14), which won Le Mans, Daytona, and numerous other championships. The XJ220’s engine has its roots in the Group C XJR-10 and XJR‑11 race cars, adapted and refined here for road use.

More than 30 years later, the XJ220’s performance is still astonishing. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, weighs only 1,570 kg, and features a body design that remains timeless.

Build quality - hand‑crafted, of course - was far superior to that of its rivals. The aluminium body, the engine–transmission–rear axle assembly mounted in a separate subframe with quick‑release connectors for all lines, and the ability to remove the entire unit as in a race car all underline its engineering pedigree.

Air conditioning, electric windows, and an audio system were included -typically British touches, a little more refined than the competition.

Only 285 cars were produced (including 10 pre‑production units). This example, finished in Le Mans Blue with a Sand interior, is considered by many to be the most beautiful and rarest colour combination. It carries production number 283 - the third‑to‑last car built.

Originally delivered to Jaguar Tax Nederlande, it has had only two previous owners and has covered just 1,890 km. The paintwork is original, and the overall condition is exceptional.

As a European service centre with specialist expertise in the XJ220, we will deliver this virtually unused example with a fresh, comprehensive service, full functional checks, and a final test drive.

This XJ220 is one of the finest examples available anywhere in the world and would be a remarkable addition to any serious collection - a true milestone in Jaguar’s history and in automotive engineering.
