1971 Land Rover Series IIa

Series IIa Soft Top

€77,900

This Land Rover 88 Series 2a has undergone a complete, uncompromising frame-off restoration to the highest standards.

Originally produced between April 1958 and the summer of 1971, the Series 2 was split into two versions: the Series 2 (1958–1961) and the Series 2a (1961–1971), which succeeded the Series 1. The Series 2 introduced numerous improvements, including a more powerful 2.25-litre engine replacing the earlier 2.0-litre unit, enhanced steering, reinforced differentials, and a slightly larger body for improved comfort.

This particular vehicle is one of the final Series 2a models built before the introduction of the Series 3, featuring the classic inset headlights rather than the later wing-mounted design.

Originally delivered as a left-hand drive export model to British Leyland France, it was immediately registered in Austria, where it remained throughout its life. Privately owned since 1985, it was discovered in 2024 in remarkably solid condition—an ideal candidate for a full restoration.

The restoration included a complete overhaul of the engine, gearbox, and differentials. The body was separated from the chassis, meticulously repaired, and repainted, retaining the original doors. The body alignment and door fitment are now flawless. The windscreen frame, hood bows, and bumper were re-galvanised. For safety and longevity, the chassis was replaced with a new, correct Series 2 frame—galvanised and finished in black with a special protective coating.

Original components such as the windscreen wiper motors were refurbished, and a period-correct Smiths footwell heater was installed. The seats have been reupholstered with new materials.

The result is a pristine Land Rover 88 Series 2a—restored without compromise. Finished in the iconic Land Rover Light Green with new upholstery and canvas hood, it also features subtle upgrades for improved drivability and reliability, including electronic ignition and a modern fuel pump. The paintwork is of exceptional quality.

A true collector’s item—rarely found in such condition. Ideal for enthusiasts, collectors, or adventurous drivers seeking a classic that’s ready for the road.
