1955 Jaguar XK140

Jaguar XK 140 DHC SE

€209,900

The Jaguar XK140 was introduced in late 1954 as the successor to the XK120. Key exterior updates that set it apart from its predecessor included a 14 cm longer footwell, offering more space for taller drivers, as well as larger front and rear bumpers with over-riders and indicator lights positioned beneath the headlights. While the radiator grille retained its original size, it was redesigned as a one-piece cast unit with fewer, wider vertical bars, and the Jaguar emblem was now integrated into the grille surround. Under the bonnet, the XK140 featured the proven 3.4-litre inline-six XK engine with dual overhead camshafts, delivering a factory-rated 190 hp (142 kW) at 5,500 rpm.

The XK140 DHC SE presented here was built on 26 August 1955 in the UK, finished in the striking and rare colour combination of Pastel Blue with a Blue interior and Fawn soft top. It was originally delivered to Jaguar dealer Delecroix in Paris, France. Discovered in 2023 in remarkably good condition and retaining its matching numbers - a rarity that significantly supports its value - this car underwent a comprehensive ‘nut and bolt’ restoration, completed at the end of 2024.

A total of 1,800 hours were invested in the restoration. Every single component was meticulously restored or replaced: the wooden door substructures and the entire electrical system were renewed. Great care was taken to replicate the original 1955 Jaguar factory methods. Every detail is true to the original, with the bodywork finished exclusively using tin for surface levelling instead of modern filler - a traditional technique mastered by only a few specialists today. The panel fit and surface quality speak for themselves. The body received two coats of clear lacquer and was additionally ceramic-sealed for lasting protection. The result is a classic that is arguably in better-than-new condition, presented in its stunning and rare original Pastel Blue.

As part of the restoration, the car was fitted with a modern 5-speed G-Trac gearbox to reduce engine revs at higher speeds and preserve the engine. The original gearbox is included with the vehicle. Like all SE models from the factory, this example features additional driving lights and elegant wire wheels.
