2013 Land Rover Defender 110 Station Wagon Works V8 Bespoke
WORKS V8 ISLAY EDITION
The Defender Works V8 Islay Edition is inspired by the 1965 Land Rover Series IIa once driven by Spencer Wilks, one of the founders of Land Rover, across the Hebridean island of Islay — the birthplace of the Land Rover name. That original vehicle now forms part of the Land Rover Classic UK Collection, and this limited edition pays tribute to its character and its story.
The exterior echoes the nuances of the 1965 model, with a body finished in Heritage Grey, a contrasting roof and robust Limestone steel wheels. The iconic radiator grille and classic Land Rover badge are complemented by bespoke side graphics bearing the registration GXC 639C, the number of Spencer Wilks’ own Series IIa.
Inside, every detail reflects a deep connection to Islay. The seats, door trims, centre armrest and sun visor are upholstered in a tactile tweed woven by the Islay Woollen Mill. Its natural palette blends blue for sea and sky, purple for the island’s heather and a soft yellow inspired by the peat landscape. A plaque beside the gear selector tells the story of how the Land Rover name came to be, adding a subtle but meaningful link to the brand’s origins.
A removable console tray secured with leather straps incorporates oak reclaimed from whisky casks sourced from the local Kilchoman distillery, founded in 2005 by Spencer Wilks’ granddaughter, Kathy Wills, and her husband Anthony. Each compartment contains a wooden disc modelled on a cask end, marking the limited production run of just 30 vehicles and celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Land Rover brand. Oak trim continues throughout the cabin, extending to the rear load space and surrounding the clock, completing an interior crafted with exceptional attention to detail.
